"One of the guys". A skirt chaser. A rascal. A jokester. A trouble maker. Hot headed. Crass.... If you were to call Shaelyx any of these things upon first glance, you wouldn't be wrong, but you wouldn't be entirely right either. What side you see of him depends on how well you know him, and getting to know him, the actual him is as complicated as his personality is to pin down.Shaelyx has a wall built up around himself so as to not let others know that he really doesn’t know what he’s doing, and it’s worked for him so far. He flirts, jokes, and smooth talks his way out of almost any situation and he doesn’t care what others think of him if they don’t know him. He likes to get what he wants and will stop at nothing to have it. Some might think he’s simple minded or even childish. He is hot headed and gets angry or upset at often trivial things and he never takes the time to assess his emotions or how he’s really feeling. He’s very much a “do first, ask later” kind of guy. He often tends to find comfort in others’ arms or at the bottom of a pint of ale.The real Shaelyx is much different than the persona he puts on. He is actually really intelligent and feels things deeply. He’s passionate, selfless, and protective (sometimes a little too much so). He is surprisingly insecure, in need of reassurance, and not as confident in himself as he leads others to believe. Once he starts to open up to you, you might catch a few of these traits as they flash across his eyes or in his words or actions. How long it takes to actually get to know him is really all up to you…

Background

Shaelyx grew up like any other Veena deep within the forests at the base of the Skatay mountain range. He was a rambunctious trouble maker and developed his inquisitive nature from a young age, much to the chagrin of the adult Viera of his village. He always questioned authority and certain rules about their culture, and was particularly reluctant to go off with his mentor when he came of age to learn the ways of a Wood-Warder. He was outgoing, which was in sharp contrast to most male Viera, and he did not understand why he had to live alone in the forest, nor did he want to. He felt deep resentment that he had to be cast out from the village and hated that males were treated like second class citizens in his eyes.Once at his mentor's camp, it was plain to see that Shaelyx wasn't taking to his lessons like he should have. He would constantly challenge authority and cause trouble by wandering off alone or by breaking his weapons. He much preferred fighting with his own two hands, so more often than not, his gear was broken on purpose so that he wouldn't have to deal with it. Try as his mentor might, Shaelyx's time in the forest didn't last very long. The young Viera would often come across outsiders that traveled to close to their camp in the forest on his patrols, and their encounters left him with a burning curiosity for life beyond the trees.His inquisitive nature eventually got the best of him when he came across another group of travelers on one of his routine patrols. He silently followed them through the trees as they went and eventually came to a settlement where he finally revealed himself to them. They were surprised by him, but he used his quick wit to persuade them into taking him with them as thanks for him not killing them on sight for traveling within his tribe's lands. They were skeptical about his claims, but they could see that he was young and alone, so the group saw no harm in taking him along with them as long as he would go quietly, which he did.

Present Day

The unlikely group of travelrs eventually set sail and landed in Ul'dah, which is where they parted ways with Shaelyx after directing him to the Adventurer's Guild. Ul'dah was unlike anything he could have imagined, but he did his best to fit in and try and make a living. Despite his best efforts, he found that Ul'dah was cruel to outsiders which often led him to things such as petty crimes like theft in order to get by. Because of this, he has earned a bit of a reputation with the local authorities and he is often on the move within the city and doing his best to escape notice while out on the streets.If he's not taking on an odd job for some spare change, he can often be found drinking and chatting away with anyone who will listen in the local taverns or hidden dark alleys, often in an effort to stick them with the bill or for him to flirt his way into a place to stay for the night.
